How EMSCULPT NEO® Works
The 1st generation EMSCULPT® was developed in 2018 and offered a brand new, first-in-class method for muscle building in specific areas of the body. The process of High-Frequency Electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology was revolutionary, unlike any other body contouring device on the market and has since become a trusted procedure for building muscle.
While the original EMSCULPT® toned and sculpted muscle to provide body rejuvenation, EMSCULPT NEO® is even one step better. This enhanced version is FDA-cleared and continues to use the effective HIFEM technology that stimulates powerful muscle contractions to build muscle. However, it also uses radiofrequency (RF) energy to melt fat in the same area. We now get to enjoy two therapies within a single treatment!
EMSCULPT NEO® jump-starts a process called apoptosis. Apoptosis refers to NEO’s ability to cause fat cell death. The fat cells are exposed to heat energy, are damaged permanently and are gradually removed by the body during normal metabolic functioning. This is unique in that many other sculpting devices on the market only shrink the fat cell, not destroy it. A shrunken fat cell is not in a permanent state. Even with a minimal amount of weight gain, stubborn areas will return. Fat cells treated by NEO will not.

Before Treatment
EMSCULPT NEO® treatment involves four 30-minute sessions — ideally 7-10 days apart. This efficient, in-office treatment caters well to busy lifestyles and allows you to enjoy the process without any downtime. You’ll be asked to wear comfortable clothes that can be removed or adjusted easily depending on the area being treated. The RF portion of the treatment requires a sufficient amount of water to deliver the best results. It’s important that you are very hydrated for your treatment session. This will be measured by an impedance scale right before being hooked up.
During Treatment
The technician will help you with positioning the treatment bed and apply the applicators to the area to be treated. The device will be started and both HIFEM and RF settings will be raised gradually with your feedback as direction. You’ll experience small muscle contractions working up to stronger contractions as tolerated. The RF will feel warm and then be increased to a moderate constant heat throughout the treatment. You’ll feel both the contractions and the heat but it’s very tolerable.
Over 30 minutes, the electromagnetic contractions move through a series of different pulse patterns. This helps to deliver the most effective muscle-building session. One of the patterns includes a series of “tapping,” which was developed to break up lactic acid during the treatment. This prevents or reduces muscle soreness afterward. Your muscles may have accomplished 20,000 sit-ups but won’t feel like it the next day!
After Treatment
Immediately after treatment, the technician will unstrap the applicators and you may notice the skin looks a little pink. This is normal and will fade within minutes. EMSCULPT NEO® is non-invasive and has no downtime, so you can return to normal activities following your treatment session.
The next day, you might feel some mild soreness, but because of the device’s ability to break up lactic acid, it is very tolerable. In fact, many people enjoy the feeling of slight soreness so they know they’ve had a great workout!
Everyone’s experience with results varies. We’ve had people report “feeling stronger” doing their workout the day after their first treatment! Most commonly, you’ll start to see small improvement two weeks into the treatment series and significant improvement two to four weeks after the final treatment. On average, people enjoy a 25% muscle increase and 30% fat reduction.
